For over 30 years, Dr. Hossein Donyavi has dedicated his life to studying and collecting authentic Persian carpets (Wiki Source). What began as a passion during his studies at Sheffield University (where he earned his PhD and published research on Iranian art and culture) has become a mission to share the beauty and craftsmanship of Iran’s finest rugs with the world.
Dr. Donyavi travels to Iran 2-3 times each year, visiting auctions, galleries, and weaving centers across the country.
From the silk masterpieces of Qom to the bold tribal designs of Shiraz, he personally selects each carpet in our collection. He knows what separates an ordinary rug from an extraordinary one, and it’s not just knot count.
What We Look For in Authentic Persian Carpets
Many people think more knots always means better quality. That’s one of the biggest myths about Persian carpets.
The truth?
Artistic merit, craftsmanship, authentic regional design, and the quality of materials matter just as much (often more). A carpet’s true value comes from the weaver’s skill, the richness of natural dyes, and the story woven into every thread.
We also want to clear up another common misconception: not every “Persian-style” rug is actually Persian.
Authentic Persian carpets are handmade in specific regions of Iran by skilled artisans using traditional techniques.
Machine-made copies simply can’t capture the soul, texture, or durability of a genuine hand-knotted masterpiece.
Persian A Carpet’s Mission
Persian A Carpet exists to make museum-quality Persian rugs accessible to everyone, whether you’re decorating your first home or adding to a serious collection.
Our small team of experts works together to bring you carpets that represent the highest standards of Iranian craftsmanship.
Each piece in our collection is more than a floor covering. It’s a work of art, a piece of cultural heritage, and an investment that can be passed down for generations.
We’re honored to share this tradition with you.
